Process
In my user research practice, I adopt a dynamic approach that strongly emphasizes ResearchOps, allowing me to tailor methodologies to the unique requirements of each project. Here's how I structure and adapt my methods:
My research journey begins with a comprehensive understanding of the specific needs and objectives of the project stakeholders. This initial step is crucial in defining the scope and direction of the research efforts.
Once I've grasped the stakeholders' needs, I carefully select the most appropriate research methodologies and techniques to achieve the desired outcomes. This involves considering the project's goals, target audience, and available resources. Drawing from the Nielsen Group Landscape of User Research Methods, I have both conducted and overseen the following methodologies: 1. Usability Testing (Both In Lab and Remote) 2. Field Studies (Ethnography) 3. Focus Groups 4. Interviews 5. Eye Tracking 6. Diary Studies 7. Card Sorting and Tree Testing 8. A/B Testing 9. Usability Benchmarking My experience across this diverse array of user research methods has equipped me with a comprehensive skill set to address a wide range of research challenges and objectives effectively.
I take a meticulous approach to participant recruitment, employing screeners and filters to ensure the selected participants align with the research objectives. This step is essential in gathering relevant and insightful data.
Crafting an effective moderator's guide is pivotal in the research process. I work on building a guide that includes well-thought-out questions designed to elicit valuable insights from participants. I maintain open communication with the client throughout this stage, validating the queries and analysis to ensure alignment with their objectives.
With the research plan in place, I conduct user research sessions involving a hybrid method to add behavior, attitude, and qualitative and quantitative results. During this phase, I aim to create a comfortable environment for participants to provide candid feedback and insights. I meticulously analyzed the collected data following the research sessions to identify key findings and trends. I translate these findings into actionable insights and recommendations. Depending on the client's preferences, I prepare comprehensive reports using PowerPoint or Excel, ensuring the results are clear, concise, and impactful. By adhering to this methodological approach and actively involving stakeholders throughout the research process, I consistently deliver research outcomes that align with project objectives, driving user-centered design and decision-making.
