Coaching UX
Welcome to my teaching portfolio! I'm excited to share my journey as an educator at AprendeUX. This platform was established around seven years ago by Luis Aceves, one of the pioneers of UX in Monterrey, México. Recognizing the significant gap in accessible UX content in Spanish, AprendeUX was born. It was created to cater to a growing community that preferred to learn about User Experience, User Research, Usability, accessibility, and more. As an advocate for encouraging the next generation of design thinkers and innovators, I've had the privilege of diving into the fascinating realms of ResearchOps, DesignOps, and Discovery UX. Join me in exploring my teaching experience, where we'll delve into the courses I've taught, my pedagogical approach, and the impact I've had on students' educational journeys. Let's begin!
Courses Overview
Teaching has become a significant part of my journey in the User Experience (UX) field. Having spent years working in a consulting agency, I've had the privilege of immersing myself in a diverse range of industries. This experience has sharpened my UX skills and refined and streamlined my processes. This combination of hands-on industry exposure and honed expertise inspired me to share my knowledge and insights with others. My foray into teaching began with a realization - I wanted to bridge the gap between the rich and intricate world of UX and those eager to learn its intricacies.
In 2019, I embarked on a significant teaching endeavor, focusing on ResearchOps, a course born from my genuine enthusiasm for User Research methodologies. Initially, "Ops" might not have been in my lexicon, but my extensive hands-on experience in various User Research techniques told a different story. From orchestrating usability tests and delving into ethnographic studies to facilitating card sorting exercises and fostering participatory design sessions, I have been deeply immersed in the dynamic world of UX research. As I delved deeper into User Research, I stumbled upon ResearchOps and the framework initially pioneered by luminaries like Kate Towsey and other researchers worldwide. It was an eye-opening moment. I realized that the methodologies and processes I had been crafting over the years were akin to the very essence of ResearchOps, ensuring the seamless and hassle-free execution of User Research. This realization ignited a desire to share my experiences and empower others to achieve this same level of efficiency and effectiveness in their UX research journeys. And so, I decided to teach, bridging the gap between theory and practice and helping aspiring UX professionals navigate the exciting terrain of ResearchOps. Subjects I Instruct: 1. The Significance of ResearchOps 2. Exploring User Research Techniques 3. In-Depth Examination of Common User Research Methods 4. Mastering User Research Recruitment 5. Crafting Your Mod Guide 6. Effective Research Setup 7. The Art of Analysis Reporting
In 2021, I embarked on a transformative journey into user-centered discovery through my course "Discovery UX." This educational venture, my second comprehensive offering with Aprende UX, represents an evolution from our earlier success with ResearchOps, particularly in light of the challenges posed by the onset of COVID-19. The pandemic significantly altered the landscape of discovery processes and emphasized the need for remote work adaptability. "Discovery UX" draws from my extensive experience crafting innovative products and features. It navigates the intricate interplay between business objectives, market dynamics, and user needs. This course imparts invaluable insights into strategic alignment, user-centered ideation, prototyping for validation, and the art of effective collaboration. Designed to empower seasoned designers seeking refinement and newcomers eager to grasp the subtleties of UX discovery, "Discovery UX" equips students with a robust toolkit for orchestrating seamless discovery processes in the ever-evolving digital realm.
Collaborating with Luis Aceves, the Owner and Founder of Usaria and Aprende UX, along with the exceptional Commercial Director Rubén Leal, was a highlight of my professional journey. In 2022, we embarked on a mission to create a three-part series to impart essential knowledge in Strategy, Operations, and Sales, focusing on practical applications within the business context. The experience of working alongside these two remarkable leaders has been extraordinary. Their trust in my teaching capabilities and design expertise has been advantageous. In this class, I had the privilege of delving deep into the world of Ops, tracing its origins, and demonstrating how it can be effectively applied within modern teams to yield superior results. One of the key highlights of this course was the exploration of Change Management within DesignOps. By leveraging the principles of Design Thinking, we uncovered strategies for creating exceptional experiences within design teams, fostering a culture of growth and innovation within our respective organizations.
Since 2018, my tenure as an instructor with AprendeUX has been a remarkable journey. Having had the privilege to educate over 150 students from across Latin America and Spain, I've witnessed their genuine enthusiasm for the course materials and our collaborative projects firsthand. This shared learning experience has been immensely fulfilling. Teaching with AprendeUX has offered me a unique opportunity to stay abreast of evolving User Experience and User Research trends. With each new generation of students, I have aimed to ensure they acquire practical skills that can be readily applied to their projects. This commitment to knowledge sharing has enriched my students' learning experience and kept me engaged and attuned to the dynamic landscape of UX and User Research.
