End to End Project
Between November 2020 and March 2023, I played a pivotal role in an incredible project to reshape the landscape of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. This initiative was aimed at Psychiatrists, empowering them with a more straightforward and intuitive EHR experience that allowed them to prioritize patient care over administrative burdens. As the UX leader spearheading the creation of this EHR, I immersed myself in conversations with stakeholders, psychiatrists, and the technology team. This collaborative effort ensured that the solution catered to the unique needs of the medical professionals while aligning with the AryaNow platform's overarching vision. This case study offers an in-depth exploration of our journey to design a revolutionary EHR system explicitly tailored for Psychiatrists. Through a meticulous process encompassing stakeholder collaboration, design thinking, and seamless implementation, our objective was to fundamentally transform how doctors record patients' behaviors and mental states within the AryaNow platform.
I supported the team by conducting extensive discussions with stakeholders and Psychiatrists to grasp their challenges and aspirations. This phase allowed us to assess existing EHR systems and pinpoint areas for substantial enhancement. Our objective was to align our design solution closely with the practical needs of users in the field.
Design Thinking Approach
To embark on the design journey, we adopted a design thinking approach. This framework allowed us to empathize with the Psychiatrists' workflow and experiences, define the core problems, ideate innovative solutions, prototype potential designs, and ultimately test and refine them based on user feedback.
Comprehending the learning curve associated with the current use of EHRs by psychiatrists, including widely used systems like Valant. Although Valant is comprehensive, it presents a steep learning curve, especially during initial use.
Leveraging FigJam, I initiated mapping out interactions among providers, patient advisors, and patients, striving to determine the optimal organization for the EHR. This crucial step heavily relied on the valuable input from doctors, shaping the direction of the entire design process.
One pivotal phase in my EHR design process involved generating early visual concepts. The psychiatrists' stakeholders, less familiar with technology, found envisioning a distinct and user-friendly EHR challenging. To bridge this gap, we conducted multiple iterations of wireframing and research, ensuring our approach resonated effectively and aligning it with their needs and expectations.
This collaborative effort culminated in developing a groundbreaking EHR system exclusively tailored to the unique needs of Psychiatrists. The resulting system was lauded for its user-friendliness and remarkable efficiency. Its intuitive design drastically reduced the time needed for data entry, elevating the overall user experience within the AryaNow platform. This enhanced EHR solution empowered medical professionals to channel their energies toward patient care rather than grappling with the intricacies of complex systems, highlighting the significant impact on the workflow and experience of psychiatrists.
I played a pivotal role in a crucial phase of this product's development, where I crafted low-fidelity wireframes through a comprehensive analysis of three core pillars: Business, Users, and Market.
The journey of revamping the EHR system for Psychiatrists underscored the potency of collaboration, design thinking, and user-centric approaches. By immersing ourselves in stakeholders' challenges and seamlessly integrating innovative solutions, we engineered an interface that advances the AryaNow mission—enabling mental health care providers to offer optimal care to needy patients. Our achieved success metrics underscore the transformative impact of this endeavor.
Our efforts bore tangible success metrics. Notably, doctors now grasp how to navigate the system within two days, starkly contrasting the 2-3 weeks typically required by more intricate EHRs.
Over ten psychiatrists have adopted the AryaNow EHR and are captivated by its swift and intuitive usability.
A crucial milestone in our forthcoming integration of machine learning, which will further streamline Doctor-Patient interactions.
